Evaluation Question 4

Why would they watch your film? What would appeal to them?

AGE : I done a survey and asked for the peoples ages and roundabout it was mainly under 18s that completed this thriller survey. This is what helped us to produce our thriller knowing what range age group liked what in thrillers.

_________________________________________________________

as you can see i have done a survey in order to find out if my thriller idea will fit my specific audiences needs and what i need to include. From the responses i have collected majority have stated they like the suspense from a thriller movie and that is a criteria i have accomplished. Also they have said that their favourite thriller is taken and this fits my thrillers needs as I wanted A Done Deal to have some resemblance with Taken , i have successfully done this because in my thriller opening i have included some conventions that have been included in Taken , also the plot is similar and the man's daughter being kidnapped.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

This is our "Focus Group "

^ From this we gathered what we needed to include in our thriller.
Also another way we attracted audiences attention was that we did not use just one type of ethnic background, no racism.

Why would they want to watch your film?

the responses show that cliffhangers and suspense are the most effective in thrillers to the audience , so that is what i have included in A Done Deal (my thriller) where the protagonist is being stalked/chased by the antagonist , this links with the type of audience my thriller can attract :

mainly young teenagers watch thrillers and this fits in perfectly with my thriller because the characters in my thriller are teenagers, so this will result in the young audience wanting to watch it to see what is stereotyped about them as a whole. in my thriller the antagonist is a male figure and protagonist is a young girl. So the young audience relate to this because they feel sympathy for the vulnerable girl , so this will lead to them wanting to finish off the thriller to see what happens to the girl.

Why would they want to carry on watching after you initial 3 minute opening?

Im certain my audience will carry on watching the rest of my thriller because it includes all the conventions of a thriller that they had asked for on my questionnaire, which were cliffhangers and suspense.

Also i published my thriller opening on my friends facebook (social networking site) in order to get feedback for our opening and these are the comments i received :

From my audience's response i know they would continue watching. Also one commenter stated ' i like how you could see things from her point of view' this part was really effective I the protagonist was running whilst holding the camera in order to create that real effect to the audience to make them feel like they are in my shoes and i added in diegetic sound which was my own breathing this showed the fear in my voice and how heavily i was breathing this increased tension drastically.

Another commenter ' loved the last bit' , the ending of my thriller opening was on a cliffhanger where the protagonist was pushed into a car and droven away but we don't know what will happen to her next, so to know that it was effective and people enjoyed it would leave my audience on their end of their seats !

Evaluation Question 6

Evaluation Question 7

My views on my progression :

This is the final product A Done Deal.

This is my preliminary task - as you can see i have learnt how to keep the camera steady not shaky like in our preliminary task and how to be a better actress. Another aspect we have as a team improved on was our costumes when filming, in our preliminary the characters were mean to play roles of spies and agents but they are wearing normal clothes so it doesn't really make sense or look realistic.

MacGuffin - Thriller

The term Macguffin was created by Alfred Hitchcock  it is used to drive the film plot along, it is like an object which helps the plot to evolve however the object itself is not important tp the audience
The real define of Macguffin is important major players in stories sacrifice anything to obtain their status even if the Macguffin is challenging. Alfred Hitchcokc stated 'the audience don't car..' when he defined a MacGuffin as the object which the plot revolves around but not as to what the object is.

Momento

The Film Opening Of Memento
In class I have seen the opening scene of Memento which is made in 2000. I have made notes on about the thriller opening of the sequence.

This is a unusual film that is edited differently because the film is played backwards. The story is told backwards so the audience find it hard to understand and then they want to watch the next part of the film. At the beginning of the film it shows a guy looking at a picture and waving it around several times. Then the shot of a man dead on the floor is seen then everything filmed backwards where his glasses are placed back on his eyes and then is shot again. Flashbacks were black and white also there was blood involved  The sounds at the beginning were non diegetic which creates a mystery feeling then leads to a heartbeat. At the end of the scene we can here voice over after the gun shot. The camera shots that was taken in the opening of the thriller was Long shot, Over the Shoulder, Close up, Low Key-Lighting and Wide shot.

Alfred Hitchcock quotes

"The only way to get rid of my fears is to make films about them"

"Always make the audience suffer as much as possible"

" If its a good movie, the sound could go off and the audience would have a perfectly good idea of what was going on"

Manchurian Candidate Anaylsis

The Manchurian Candiate originally was made in 1962 but a newer version was made in 2004.
This filum was directed by John Frankenheimer , also all the actors of that time were white the country was dominated by whites. Like in this film it has only got white men and no blacks in it, also to reflect the time it was set 1962

In this film there are hardly any women, and the ones that are shown do not have much of a role , this reflects the time it was set where males were dominant and women had no say and their only role was to be a housewife.

The newer version which was published in 2004 is more thrilling and more violent than the original and we see it as more of a thriller with its conventions.

The film is about a government conspiracy that involve a former Korean POW, Sergeant Raymond Shaw , who has been brainwashed by the Communists to be an assassin. The original version in 1962 has very much been updated which suit the more modern audience by new director Jonathan Demme, written by  Daniel Pyne and Dean Georgaris starring Denzel Washington who has the leading role in the film, Liev Schreiber, Meryl Streep, Jon Voight and Jeffrey Wright.

This film has used suspense, red herrings & cliffhangers which are used extensively. The genre is flexible & can engage the audience through a dramatic rendering of psychological social & political tension. The villain who is the president is a driven plot, whereby he presents obstacles that the hero must overcome.

Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan
Name: Lucy, Arafat, Artiola and Gabriele

Production: Gala Moan Productions

Potential problems and how to overcome these problems:

If someone is sick- and we need him or her then we will have to shoot another scene that they are not needed in.

If we are told that we are not allowed to shoot in a certain location then we will change the scenario of the scene to fit another location.

If our equipment gets damaged by accident, then we will inform a teacher straight away in order to replace the camera and to avoid future confusion.
