Manchurian Candidate Anaylsis

The Manchurian Candiate originally was made in 1962 but a newer version was made in 2004.
This filum was directed by John Frankenheimer , also all the actors of that time were white the country was dominated by whites. Like in this film it has only got white men and no blacks in it, also to reflect the time it was set 1962

In this film there are hardly any women, and the ones that are shown do not have much of a role , this reflects the time it was set where males were dominant and women had no say and their only role was to be a housewife.

The newer version which was published in 2004 is more thrilling and more violent than the original and we see it as more of a thriller with its conventions.

 The film is about a government conspiracy that involve a former Korean POW, Sergeant Raymond Shaw , who has been brainwashed by the Communists to be an assassin. The original version in 1962 has very much been updated which suit the more modern audience by new director Jonathan Demme, written by  Daniel Pyne and Dean Georgaris starring Denzel Washington who has the leading role in the film, Liev Schreiber, Meryl Streep, Jon Voight and Jeffrey Wright. 

This film has used suspense, red herrings & cliffhangers which are used extensively. The genre is flexible & can engage the audience through a dramatic rendering of psychological social & political tension. The villain who is the president is a driven plot, whereby he presents obstacles that the hero must overcome.
